Braille numbers 1 to 100

Every number from 1 to 100 written out, plus the rule that makes longer numbers work: one number sign covers the whole run, however many digits follow.

The rule for numbers longer than one digit

A number sign — dots 3-4-5-6 — opens the run, and every letter after it reads as a digit until something closes it. That is why 100 is four cells and not six: one indicator, then three digits. Adding an indicator before each digit is the commonest mistake, and it makes the number unreadable.

100 — correct, four cells

1,000 — the comma keeps the run open

The same rule covers years, prices and page numbers. How braille numbers work sets out what opens a run and what closes it, including the letter sign a letter from a to j needs when it follows a digit.

1 to 20

Follow any single digit for how its cell is built — each one reuses the letter of the same position in the alphabet, so 1 is the letter a and 0 is the letter j.

Printing this

The tables above print cleanly in black and white. For the alphabet, punctuation and indicators on one sheet as well, use the printable chart. To convert a specific number or any other text, the translator shows the cells and the dot numbers together.
